The eventual winner was PokerStars player Raiden Kan, who took home the first prize of HKD $1,250,000 (USD $160,000), with the 27-year-old becoming the first Malaysian player to win a major tournament on the Asian poker circuit. The result also saw him move up from fourth to second on the Asia Player of the Year leaderboard.

In total the 10-day poker schedule awarded HKD $12,358,408 (USD $1,584,400) in prizes, across 12 different events. It’s the first time any MPC series has surpassed the HKD $10 million mark.

PartyPoker.com launch Premier League Poker Mixed Game Championship

PartyPoker.com and Matchroom Sport announced an extension to the world famous Premier League format as the PartyPoker.com Premier League Poker Mixed Game Championship will take place from November 13-17 2011 at the Playboy Club London in Mayfair.

Three disciplines of poker
Sky Sports will broadcast the show in the UK which will test 12 of the world’s best players in three disciplines of the game – No-Limit Hold’em, Pot Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha. The shows will then be distributed internationally.

Tony G, Mike Sexton and UK young guns Sam Trickett and Luke Schwartz are the first four players to sign up for the $25k buy-in event, with eight more names to follow. The innovative event sees two groups of six players aiming to make the top three in the group to reach the final, where each player will be guaranteed prize money and the winner also gets invited to the main-event of the PartyPoker.com Premier League.

Points System and Double-Up Card
The two groups play three heats covering each discipline with a points system determining the final standings – the top three players will progress to the final which will be a mix of the three disciplines from the heat stage. In a twist, each player receives a “double up” card that they can use in any of their three heats and receive double points for their efforts, adding another tactical edge to the League where play adapted to league circumstance is a must.

“I cannot wait – I am going to take everything they have,” said Tony G. “I am going to mix the mixed game up and put on a show!”

A bold move but a good one!
“I think it’s fantastic that games other than No Limit Hold’em are going to get TV exposure,” said Sexton. “Poker is more than one game. This is a bold move, but a good one!”

“In 2010 we won the Poker Innovation Award and we remain committed to producing poker programming and events that excite both players and audiences alike,” said Eddie Hearn, Managing Director of Matchroom Sport. “With the Mixed Game Championship the format offers the viewer games that they rarely see on TV. It is also a great test for the players too, taking them out of their comfort-zone and watching them compete in three different disciplines will be compelling viewing.”
